Fabrication

16 June 2010

After a lengthy consultation phase we finally got approval for our designs.  Today Paul and Brian went to discuss the fabrication with Luke Listers, a well established and very experienced metal fabrication company in Stockport, who have worked on many artist led projects.

The designs are NOW IN PRODUCTION!  We can’t wait to see how our ideas and paper artwork translates into real steel artwork.  This should be very exciting.

The steel panels habe been fabricated, permissions agreed and it’s all set to go…today is installation day!!

We all met early on site at Bridge 51 to meet the fanbricators who had just collected the steel panels from the Powder Coaters who had sprayed the colours on the night before.  So with the paint freshly dried they unpacked the panels while waiting for the work boat to pull up alongside.

After assessing the best and safest way to work on the boat in order toi install the panels on the opposoite side of the canal they set to work.  By mid afternoon the job was complete and our artwork was installed.  Great.

Pictures speak a thousand words – so see below.

Step 1 – laid out ont he grass

lunch time – the work boat at rest with 2 panels installed

Project Completed – view of artwork from the road

Today is time to celebrate everyone’s involvement in the project and launch the artwork into the world.  Let’s hope it is welcomed and appreciated by the general public.  So far all the feedback we have received has been really positive – long may it continue.

Paul and Brian would just like to thank all those people involved in the project – participants, managers and contractors who worked so well in enabling us to bring our vision to reality.
